More due to luck than any real skill, but still a win!

Ensemble...

My Oldest went to a band contest today. It was for Solo's and Ensembles, his ensemble included 2 trombones, a percussionist and my son's bassoon. They received a 2! Great job! This was their 1st contest, the school band will go to one in 2 weeks, I'm wishing them luck now.

CODA 7th Grade Honor Band Concert

This was an AWESOME concert! Loved every minute of it! They held it back in January, preceded by 2 days of clinics for the 7th grade band, the 8th & 9th grade band, HS honor band and HS jazz band, followed by the concert. The kids had their music for 1 month, they worked on it during the clinics all day Friday and Saturday morning and put on a great concert Saturday afternoon. They were WONDERFUL! This is the concert hall.
My son and his bassoon.

The whole band! About 100 7th graders!
Superb! Wonderful! Bravo!
I was so very proud of my son!

Winter, winter...Go Away!

I'm really tired of the cold, the snow and the dark, dreary days. I'm ready for spring to arrive. In the last 3 weeks the boys have been out of school 7 of those days for "snow days"...or more accurately "the snow melts during the day and the puddles freeze over at night and since Okies are idiots we'll cancel school days!" All days that have to be made up by losing scheduled holidays and adding time to each school day. It didn't help that half those days saw one or both of my kids with fevers! Ugh!
Our first snow storm...my Youngest actually had a fever here, but he wanted to get out in the snow soooo badly and I figured the low teen temperatures would cool him off a little!

I even got out in the snow and threw a couple of snowballs. Cabin fever is a bummer!

This is my boys' attempt at a snow fort! Unfortunately they couldn't get out in the deeper snow since they were getting over colds.

But they had fun anyway!
This week we are seeing temperatures in the 60's and 70's with a hint of spring in the air. That's weather in Oklahoma.

Snow Day!

Happy Snow Day!
A Blizzard today means a snow day today and tomorrow...
...we shall see if lasts beyond that!

Spring Sports

It's hard to believe, but it is time to be thinking about spring sports, even though it is only mid-January! My boys are extremely athletic (which they got from their Father, not me! I spent my youth buried in a book!) so I'm happy they are interested in playing different sports.

Spring registration is open for soccer until the first of February and my Youngest wants to play (and has since last spring). I signed him up this week, practices begin in early February and the games begin in late February. So hard to believe!
Baseball is a yearly spring sport in our house and has been for years. Our hometown has their own baseball league and we've really enjoyed playing in this league since it is not competitive. It never really mattered who won or lost, the goal was to play baseball. My Oldest has played for the last 7 yrs and 10 seasons (including 3 fall ball leagues) with this league, unfortunately, the league in only for kids up to 12 yrs old, and my son is 13...and school ball doesn't begin until 9th grade (another 2 years away!) We will have to find a league for him to play in for the next couple of years until he can try out for the high school team.

My Youngest played his first season of T-ball this last year...he wasn't impressed. He wanted to play soccer this year, which I've already signed him up for. I'm not sure if he'll play t-ball, too or just soccer.

Track will be open for my Oldest this year. It is a sport played at his school beginning in the 7th grade and he's shown some interest in it. It will also help with baseball and possibly football (which he wants to play in the fall!) I hope he likes it.

So although it is only mid-January, decisions have to be made. It's going to be a busy Spring!
