What do you get?

What do you get when you combine a bunch of boys, a large field and darkness?  A broken finger!

We went camping a couple of weeks ago with our Cub Scout Pack and it was a lot of fun.  I'll post pictures soon...I took 7 Tiger Scouts (1st graders) and they had a lot of fun!  Anyway...the big boys (Boy Scouts) play Capture the Flag at night when they have a field big enough and of course my Oldest was in the middle of it all.  He went to tag a team mate, ran into him and broke his middle finger on his right hand, just below the first knuckle!  He actually ran into the other boy so hard that he rotated the top of his finger about 45 degrees!  Anyway...

An ER visit, a visit to the Orthopedic Dr., who rotated the finger back into place, and a blue splinted finger later, he's doing great.  He didn't get to try out for the High school baseball team though :-( and he hasn't played on his regular season team for 2 weeks now, but hopefully things will work out.  He might get to try out at the end of summer or definitely next spring for his Sophomore year.

On the upside he's started practicing for the HS Marching band for the fall.  He looked really good at his first Marching Clinic Last night.

"He's Just a Little Boy"

So many parents try to live vicariously through their children, thinking that they are raising the next All-Star Player.  Where has all the fun gone?  I couldn't do what they do, I couldn't stand there and swing a bat or field a pop-fly.  I'm proud of my sons and hope they play baseball for the love of the game, there's more to life than being perfect!

Thank you to whoever wrote this.

I've missed you...have you missed me?  Hope everyone is having a great Spring, our family is definitely busy!  I haven't posted much lately, not because we haven't been doing anything, but because we've been doing everything.  Spring is definitely the busiest time of the year for us!

Update on husband...can you say bank and coach?  That's his job!

Update on Youngest Son...Tiger scout!  We're going camping this weekend!

Well that was the quick update...please join me later for a more in depth analysis of this busy family :-)

Museum of Osteology

The Museum of Osteology or the Bone Museum as locals call it opened up in the area this last year and my husband and I have been planning on taking the boys. We finally loaded them up this weekend and took a tour of this 7ooo square foot facility.

My boys are growing up sooo quickly!
We love the giraffe...did you know it has 7 vertebrae bones...just like humans!

My Youngest was fascinated with these tribal objects...all made out of bone.

Had to get a picture of the penguin...my Oldest's best friend loves penguins so this one is for him!

See the one in the tree? That has to be one of my boys :-)

I was discussing evolution with my Oldest the other day so this display was nice since I could point out things I was trying to explain to him.

Who doesn't like an elephant skull?

Or the rhino? His horn is sooo cool!

And we can't forget the killer whale hanging from the ceiling...eye level from the upper gallery.

My husband is goofy! Shark teeth are awesome!

My boys have always been fascinated by the hippopotamus...they had to have a closer look at the chompers on this big boy. In fact my Husband and Oldest son were comparing jaw structures on several of the animals and discussing how that led to severity of the animals bite!

It was a great museum, it had a lot of bones! They also had them labeled well and discussed different aspects of bones throughout the museum. They even had it where you could view some skulls being stripped by bugs!

I like snow!

I actually like snow...maybe it's because I'm a winter baby (my birthday is this month :-) or maybe its the cleanness of it when it settles like a blanket over everything, or maybe it's the fact that spring is so much more enjoyable once you've had a blizzard or 2? Who knows...all I know is that I like snow!

I don't miss the cold! Snow and 60 degree weather works for me! This has been a weird winter here in the middle part of the country...yesterday the temperature soared up to 65 degrees! And it's been this way since Christmas...daytime highs in the high 40's-low 60's, and morning lows from 25-45 degrees.

I'm not complaining...I've enjoyed the more temperate climate, I just miss the snow, which might not come to our neck of the woods this year :-( or if it does it will be a late snow storm in February...our state is so weird! When you have temps in the 70's and snow flurries on the same forecast...

Hope you all are staying warm and dry. Have a great winter and remember spring is just around the corner!

My Oldest turned 14!

My Oldest son had his birthday back in November. I am so behind on posting to my blog...Ughh! He decided to have it at the local YMCA. They spent the 1st hour swimming...this was his first swimming party, since his birthday is in the fall, so he was happy. Then they had cake and presents.

14 candles!

My Oldest and his friends.

HHe even invited a girl!

The set-up.

His youngest cousin and Uncle.

Some of his presents.
